A group of our pupils took part in the first practice day on Tuesday 22nd January at Widnes CLC.  The pupils involved really enjoyed the experience and produced an excellent news broadcast for their first attempt. They learnt the value of teamwork and the importance Filmingof planning.  We will now in ICT lessons begin to develop and produce the news content that needs to be pre-recorded for the News Day on March 13th. We will be focusing on school, local, national and international issues. We will be using the Podcast equipment provided to us by Runcorn CLC to prepare the broadcasts which will further increase our pupil’s multimedia skills.

“The BBC school report on the 22nd January was a great day I learnt lots of new things to do with media and the BBC I used a podcast case and used all of the things that were inside it also I learnt how to do lots of news reports for a certain subject”.

As a Language College it is important for our pupils to be aware of the outside world and to report what is happening across the globe. This competition is a perfect opportunity for our pupils to realise that events happening elsewhere are as important as those happening locally.  The next training day will be held at Runcorn CLC on Tuesday February 7th 2008, this will be the last opportunity for pupils to practice before they go live on March 13th 2008.

St ChadsSteve Wrawling a Senior Broadcast Journalist from the BBC commented on Tuesday’s event saying: “Wasn't Tuesday great? I was hugely impressed by the energy, creativity and commitment on show.   I'm looking for the best stories coming out of School Report, ideally from students working in video. I want to bring seven or eight of these stories together into a North West Tonight special, with students as reporters, producers and even presenters. We'll record this programme the Saturday before School Report (8th March) here in the Manchester BBC studio”.

An exciting opportunity for our school and for the pupils involved. Watch this space for our latest updates. If you have any stories/events that you would like the news team to report on then please let me know.
