Gerrard back in the red

Liverpool skipper, Steven Gerrard has gone back, again, on his word and decided to stay at Anfield. On Friday, Gerrard is expected to sign a five year deal worth £100,000 per week.

But on Tuesday, things looked very different after the talisman had told the chief executive, Rick Parry, that he wanted to leave the club. On Tuesday night he said to Sky Sports News, "After the final I fully intended to sign a new deal..... It has been the hardest decision of my life..... But the events of the past 5 or 6 weeks have really changed my mind... I do not want to get into a slanging match with the club..... I have to much respect for them and the fans."

Parry welcomed the deal with open arms, he told Sky Sports, "I couldn't be more delighted. He has decided to stay at the club because he realises how much the club means to him. Even when he was 'going' he didn't use the actual language to say he was actually leaving. He didn't say 'I want to leave'" Also this week the Liverpool squad has been boosted by the arrival of Bolo Zenden from Middlesboro', the Chilean, Mark Gonzales from Albacete, Jose Reina from Villareal and Antonio Barraghan from Seville.

Finally, Liverpool fans will be even more happy with the news of Jamie Carragher who is supposed to be signing a new long-term contract by Sunday.
