War of the worlds The film is a science fiction thriller based on a novel by H.G. Wells about an invasion of the planet Earth by an intelligent alien race . It shows the actual realism of how unprepaired the planet is if we were actually atacked by an alien race. In "War of the Worlds" the planet Earth is invaded. A huge worldwide attack takes place, huge EMP storms take over the main cities in each country causing all equiptment with any electrical properties to be fried. Ray Ferrier (Tom Cruise), a divorced dock worker in New York and a less-than-capable father, has been given the task to look after his kids for the weekend while his ex-wife (Miranda Otto) goes to her mother's with her new fiance. The weekend away with their father is not as they would have guessed it would be like for Robbie (Justin Chadwin) and his little sister Rachel (Dakota Fanning).
Ray, Robbie and Rachel are horrified by the storm and escape the city of the invaders to their mother's home which has not been hit yet to find her not home. They're on the run. The same night, after the town is attacked, the family have to stay on the back roads to keep away from the other people as they have the only working car in the whole of the world. As they approch the road to the Hudson River to get the ferry away the collosal tripods, filled with alien invaders, attack. They get to the ferry as it is sunk by the alien disintigration beams. This would have been the quickest way to Boston to find their mother. As the 3 start walking to Boston, Robbie decides he wants to join the army to fight the invaders that have killed so many of the world's people. He runs into the battle field as a fire bomb is dropped... It is now Rachel and Ray on the road alone. They finaly get to Boston as the weakness of the alien invaders is found. by Josh Thompson |
