You will have 9 hours per fortnight of lessons with the class teacher and 1 hour per week with the Spanish assistant, which will focus on speaking skills and preparation for the oral exam. During the year you will have the opportunity to go on dedicated language days at local universities and to take part in exchange visits to our new partner school in Spain.

COURSE CONTENT
Topics covered are:
Leisure and lifestyles, including travel and tourism, sport, hobbies, entertainment, customs, traditions and healthy living.
The Individual and Society, including relationships and responsibilities, gender issues, youth culture, the environment, immigration, education, vocational training and future careers.

Both AS and A2 courses are examined in two modules and all four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing are tested.
AS exams are taken in May/June of Year 12.

Module 1 - Two part oral exam  20% / 60 marks:
This exam lasts for 15 minutes and is conducted by your teacher. Firstly, a conversation based on the topics studied at AS, and secondly, a general conversation lasting 7 minutes during which you will talk about your personal interests, studies and plans/aspirations for the future.

Module 2 - Listening, Reading and Writing  30% /98 marks.
Q1 Listening:  (8 marks).
Q2 Grammar task based on the listening items (5 marks).
Q3/4a Reading and Responding: 2 or 3 texts with comprehension tasks  (24 marks).
Q4b Grammar task based on the reading passages (10 marks)
Q5 Translation from Spanish into English (16 marks).
Q6 One essay in Spanish (200-250 words), from a choice of 4   titles, 2 for each of the topic areas. (35 marks).

PROGRESSION
Foreign Languages combine well in Higher Education with a broad range of subjects, including Maths, Science, Business, Law,
English and History.
Career prospects are enormous, in both the public and private sector, manufacturing and service industries. Employment rates for language graduates are high.

COURSE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
You will have taken the Higher paper at GCSE and achieved at least a grade B.
